Monday
7pm Portobello: 2 locations
Suitable for all runners, our shorter Monday night training runs are a mixture of steady runs, speed, and hill sessions. All levels of runners are welcome, however we would expect runners to be able to run continuously for at least 20 minutes. Run Leaders are Elly Mackenzie, Andrew Simpson, and Fi Mackenzie. ‘We are out for about 45mins to 1hr, depending on the route and session. Distance varies from 3 to 5 miles. All runs start from Tumbles in Portobello at 7pm. Any questions, please contact erntraining@gmail.com
Tuesday
6.30pm Royal Commonwealth Pool
Also known as “Chooseday” Tuesdays – we meet at 6.30pm, at the Royal Commonwealth Pool. Sign up for a pace group and one of your lovely run leaders will take you around a carefully tailored route. Run Leaders are Miguel Mudarra, Peter Chambers, Sorrel Cosens and Wendy McFarlane.
Group 1: (8:00-9:00 min/mile)
Group 2: (9:30-10:30 min/mile)
Group 3: (11:00-12:30 min/mile)

Wednesday
7.00pm Beach in front of Portobello Swim Centre.
Summer: From April to September, Wednesday night is ‘Beach Fun’ night, a 50-60 minute circuit training session led by Gordon Faulkner on the beach in front of the Portobello Swim Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend this special summer offering; the cost is £2 for members, £4 for non-members. Any questions, please contact bluebananafitness@gmail.com
Winter: In the winter season ERN organises a set of Winter Talks with topics ranging from looking after your feet, training with Heart Rate monitor, nutrition and strength training to complement your running. Keep an eye out for the Newsletter or updates on the private Facebook group for details.
Thursday
6.30pm Craigentinny Golf Club Car Park/Portobello.
Run Leader Andrew Simpson helps you “Find your Inner Runner”, aided by Emma Lougheed. Thursday sessions are designed to guide you to fulfilling your running potential. All sessions are geared towards your speed and pace. Interval sessions are conducted in a fun and friendly environment with a view to understanding your own pace, this may even mean running slower.
All levels of runners are welcome. Expect to be out for at least an hour. Come along and see what pace and control can do for your running potential. Any questions, please contact erntraining@gmail.com.
Saturday
9.30am Portobello / Edinburgh / Vogrie / Oriam / Meadowmill
Saturdays are for parkrun! Although not an official ERN training event, ERNies can be found at all of the local parkruns, with Portobello, Edinburgh (Cramond), Oriam and Vogrie being the most well-attended by us. Many of us are involved in regular volunteering at parkrun, and each year we do an “ERN Takeover” for our club’s birthday, where we take over the entire volunteer roster at Portobello parkrun. Whether you are running or volunteering, parkrun is a great way to get to know more runners and to give back to our community.
Sunday

Our Sunday runs typically feature the mileage build-up to local and popular half / full marathons and there is always a “club run” route option of around 10km. The Autumn 2022 plan includes the long run mileage plans for London and Loch Ness marathons and Glasgow half marathon which are all to be held on 2nd October. These are predominantly road / tarmac routes although from time to time we may include a trail run option or a “destination run” to explore routes outside Edinburgh.
